Network Fundamentals

  1. LAN(Local Area Network):computer or devices in a small geographic area connected to form a network by a central hub/media:hub or switches or routers
  2. HUB:recv data from host and broadcast to all local devices
  3. SWITCHES:recv data and send to dest. directly.it can simutanesly send and recv data, which is smarter than HUB.
  4. ROUTERS:connect LANs to communicate.Gateway for a LAN
  5. CNX by RJ-45 Cable or WAP
  6. data transfer rate is the maximum bits per second(bps)
  7. IP address can be devided into two parts by a subnet mask
  8. 192.168.1.1—-[192.168.1]NetworkID—[1]Host ID
  9. Subnet Mask:A group of four number that define a computer’s network
  10. VLAN(Virtual LAN)
  11. Network Topology:BUS(connected in a line)/STAR(connected by a central media)/RING(connected in a loop)/MESH(every one connected,with no central media)
  12. Ethernet: A standard defined how data is sent and recved by IEEE as 802.3
  13. Frames, includes data and address info, are trasfered in network.
  14. MAC(Media Access Control) address
  15. OSI Model [Layer 1~7]
  16. Loopback IP:127.0.0.1
